Daily Devotion: October 13th 2021

Wednesday October 13th

Read: Psalm 46:10

Learn:

If my father were still here…

I would spend more time with him. Find out what he loves/likes/dislikes. What his dreams were. What his greatest struggles were. I would ask him more questions. Just get to know him better.
IF I WASN’T TOO BUSY.

Let that sink in a little…

Now think about this. My heavenly father is still here. He wants to spend time with me. He wants to tell me about the things He loves/likes/dislikes.  He is ready to show me His dreams, for me and for those around me.  He wants to share with me His greatest struggles. He begs for my questions. And yes, He wants me to know Him better. In fact, it is the very reason I was created. I was designed to walk with God, to abide in Him, (John 17:22-24). In fact God YEARNS for me to be close to Him, (James 4:5).

All we seem to be able to do is run from one activity/responsibility to another. Psalm 46:10 tells us to “Be still”. A later translation says to “Stop striving”. You could just say “STOP whatever you’re doing”, “and KNOW that I am God”. There is no other relationship in my life that is more important. There is no greater FATHER to get to know than the creator Himself.

Reflect: Take a little time today to meditate on the key verse.  Think of yourself as a small child.  Picture yourself crawling into the Father’s lap, putting your head on His shoulder and just resting.  Then think of questions you would ask Him to get to know Him better.  Then ask, AND BE READY TO LISTEN.

Pray: Father.  Abba Father.  My Father.  I am here.  Help me to put aside the cares of the world for a while.  I want to know you better.  I have lots of questions and I’m ready to listen.  Let me see your face. Let me hear your voice.  May your Spirit prepare my heart.  In Christ I pray, Amen.
